Coach Accelerator Program (CAP) Launches
by USA Taekwondo
(Jan 28, 2022) - USATKD is excited to provide a fantastic opportunity to all U.S. coaches through the launch of the Coach Accelerator Program (CAP).
All coaches are invited to take part in this unique opportunity to immerse themselves and their best athletes in the Olympic Gold Medal winning National Academy program for a week, working with the National Team coaches and Academy athletes in Colorado Springs, demonstrating their ability to bring value to a session, building a personal relationship with the national program and showing Team USA what they can do.
Coaches in attendance will first be asked to observe sessions and ask questions, before assisting in and finally taking the lead in a session with the National Academy Athletes.
This unique opportunity is both a phenomenal opportunity for any serious coach, and an important Talent ID opportunity as the National program looks to work with coaches from all across the United States, with the ultimate goal of coaching the National Team in major international competition at cadet, junior and senior levels in the near future. With the upcoming expansion of the National Center of Excellence we are also interested in bringing one or more coaches into the program on a full time or part time basis, should the right fit be found.
While not required, participating coaches will be able to bring up to four of their best Junior or older black belt athletes to the program, providing a great opportunity to show off the work you are doing in your home gym, and also get those athletes in front of the National Team program with an eye to funding and travel opportunities should they impress, along with vital feedback to help with their development. Coaches are free to select the best athletes from within their own program using their own judgment, however we do ask that you consider that the U.S. Athlete Academy is a high intensity, world class program before making any decisions on who to bring with you.
There is no charge for either coaches or athletes to participate in this program.
Whether you have been around for a long time, or consider yourself part of the exciting next generation of U.S. Taekwondo coaches, this is your opportunity to show us that you understand the modern demands of today’s Taekwondo, and why we should be looking closely at you for greater involvement, and we would urge all coaches with serious ambitions to coach at the highest level, along with any coaches who want to improve their own skills for the benefit of their athletes to consider applying.
Spaces are limited to one coach and up to four athletes per week, and if more coaches apply for a particular week than we can accommodate the USATKD High Performance Department will make the decision on which coaches are selected based on consideration including their athlete’s competition record in USATKD tournaments, with the other coaches being offered alternative, mutually convenient dates.
The only requirements coaches must meet are to be in good standing with USATKD, able to pass a background check and be up to date on their SafeSport training.
