NCTA World University Games Team Trials

The NCTA is pleased to announce that the sparring and poomsae team trialsfor the 2022 Summer World University Games (Universiade)will take place onFebruary, 18 – 20, 2022 at theUSA Taekwondo National Center for Excellencein Colorado Springs, CO.

Online Registration

Registration for the 2022 NCTA SWUG Team Trials will be available soon on USA Taekwondo Sport80. All athletes and coaches must be USA Taekwondo Members.

 

Schedule

Friday, February 18
4 pm- 8pmRegistration and weigh-ins
6 pm- 9pm Poomsae Team Trials

 

Saturday, February 19
8 am-7pm Sparring Team Trials (Fin, Bantam, Light, Middle)
2 pm-6 pm Registration and Weigh ins

 

Sunday, February 20
8 am-7 pm Sparring Team Trials (Fly, Feather, Welter, Heavy)

 

Sparring Divisions

Athletes for 16 sparring divisions (8 male and 8 female divisions) will be selected.

 

Poomsae Divisions

Representatives in these divisions will be selected:

Individual Male
Individual Female
Mixed Pair (1 male, 1 female)
Male Team (3 athletes)
Female Team (3 athletes)

 

Athletes for each of the above referenced divisions will be selected at the team trials. Each entrant will progress through a preliminary elimination round (20 or more entrants) where each entrant will perform two recognized poomsae. The top 50% of entrants will then advance through a semifinal elimination round (9-19 teams), where each team will perform two different recognized poomsae.Finally, the top 8 entrants will compete in a final round where each team will compete with 1 recognized poomsae and 1 freestyle poomsae.

 

Collegiate Eligibility

Athletes aged 18-26 on December 31, 2022 will be eligible. Athletes who graduated in either 2020, 2021, or 2022, or who are half-time status or more in 2021 or 2022, will be eligible.

 

All athletes must do the following to verify collegiate eligibility:

  1. Verify half-time student status either via the National Student Clearinghouse or via the NCTA Collegiate Eligibility Form (available soon).

Failure to complete this step will result in an athlete not being allowed to compete.
