Kukkiwon Concludes 2025 Sports Leaders Training Program for Developing Countries with Great Success
Kukkiwon has successfully completed the 2025 Sports Leaders Training Program for Developing Countries.
The closing ceremony was held at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 10, at the Kukkiwon Central Training Center. The event was attended by Kukkiwon President Yoon Woong-seok, Executive Vice President Lee Jong-gap, staff members, and participating trainees. The ceremony featured the presentation of certificates of commendation, congratulatory remarks, a commemorative photo session, and a Taekwondo demonstration performance.
The Program aims to cultivate Taekwondo instructors equipped with both theoretical and practical expertise through the standardized curriculum of the World Taekwondo Academy (WTA). By offering comprehensive training, Kukkiwon seeks to help trainees develop the skills and global sensibility necessary to become competent international Taekwondo leaders.
The Program also provides opportunities to experience traditional Korean culture, thereby deepening participants’ understanding of Korea—the homeland of Taekwondo—and strengthening cultural ties.
Beginning on October 20, the Program brought together 40 trainees from 31 developing countries, selected through recommendations from national Taekwondo associations and Kukkiwon-dispatched instructors abroad.
Participating nations included 13 countries from Asia (Laos, Pakistan, Cambodia, Nepal, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Mongolia, Lebanon, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bhutan, Jordan), 10 from Africa (Cameroon, Ethiopia, Uganda, Egypt, Mozambique, Ghana, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, Rwanda, Tunisia), seven from the Americas (Bolivia, Panama, Brazil, Nicaragua, Cuba, Peru, Mexico), and one from Europe (Türkiye).
The four-week Program, held at the Taekwondowon in Muju, offered a wide range of coursework, including:
- Taekwondo Theory: terminology and basic techniques, colored-belt and black-belt poomsae, demonstration theory, self-defense
- Taekwondo Practicum: terminology and basic techniques, poomsae, injury taping, demonstration theory, breaking, self-defense, sparring
- Teaching Methodology: instruction methods for basic techniques, poomsae, sparring, breaking, and self-defense
In addition to training, participants explored major cultural sites with youth culture guides, visiting Gyeongbokgung Palace, the Korean Folk Village, Namsan, Dongdaemun, and other notable attractions to experience the beauty of Korea firsthand.
In his closing remarks, Kukkiwon President Yoon Woong-seok stated, “I hope this Program has been a valuable opportunity for you to strengthen your capabilities as Taekwondo leaders and to support your personal growth. As you return to your home countries, I ask that you carry with you pride and a sense of mission as members of the global Taekwondo family, and continue working for the worldwide development of Taekwondo.”
Kukkiwon also awarded certificates of commendation to ten trainees who completed the Program with outstanding performance.
