USA Taekwondo Named #1 World Taekwondo Member National Association for Second Consecutive Year

WUXI, CHINA (October 23, 2025) — On the eve of the 2025 World Taekwondo Championships, during the World Taekwondo General Assembly, it was revealed that USA Taekwondo (USATKD) has been ranked as #1 Member National Association (MNA) in the world for the second consecutive year.

The ranking, determined through a comprehensive evaluation of international performance, governance, athlete development, and event management, recognizes USA Taekwondo at the top of 213 taekwondo nations worldwide overall, marking another milestone in the organization’s continued rise and international leadership.

In terms of the very important athletic performance on the mat USA was ranked second overall, behind only the Republic of Korea in terms of athletic success at the top level.

This is the result of collective ambition, and we're pushing into the LA quad with growing confidence,” said Steve McNally, CEO of USA Taekwondo. “Athletes, coaches, referees, board members and staff - everyone has raised their game. The United States isn’t just participating anymore; we’re leading. But as we lead, we must stay humble, grounded, and keep moving forward. Leading from the front means never standing still, and we still have so much to achieve - it still feels like we are just getting started in living up to our potential.

The back-to-back achievement underscores USATKD’s sustained success both on and off the mat, from record international performances to groundbreaking initiatives, enhanced safety standards, and innovative partnerships with the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee, Pan American Taekwondo Union and World Taekwondo.

Over the past several years, USA Taekwondo has undergone a complete transformation, modernizing its operations, investing in athlete pathways, and working to unite the national Taekwondo community under a shared vision of excellence and opportunity.

Being recognized as #1 federation for the second consecutive year validates our vision, and shows a remarkable turnaround for our organization,” McNally added. “But more importantly, it reminds us of the responsibility that comes with it - the recognition is definitely welcome, but we have to keep earning it, every single day. We thank World Taekwondo President Dr. Chungwon Choue and Pan American Taekwondo Union President Juan Manuel López Delgado for their leadership, vision, and partnership in guiding the global Taekwondo family forward.”
