Kukkiwon Launches Refresher Training for Overseas Taekwondo Instructors

Kukkiwon has commenced the 2026 Kukkiwon Overseas Dispatch Instructor Refresher Training Program, aimed at strengthening the capabilities and professionalism of Taekwondo instructors serving abroad.

The program began with an opening ceremony at 3:00 p.m. on March 9 at the Kukkiwon Central Training Hall and will run for ten days until March 18. A total of 51 overseas instructors representing 51 countriesare participating in the training.

During the program, participants will receive comprehensive instruction covering standardized Taekwondo techniques and teaching methodologies, as well as technical terminology and the latest competition rules. The training is designed to reinforce a unified global standard in Taekwondo instruction.

In particular, a special lecture session will focus on enhancing instructors’ capacity to utilize artificial intelligence (AI)in response to recent developments in the global Taekwondo landscape and the growing trend toward digital transformation.

Additionally, a workshop will be held during the training period where instructors will share national Taekwondo development policiesand discuss effective strategies for promoting Taekwondo that align with the specific conditions of each country.

At the opening ceremony, Kukkiwon President Yoon Woong-seokexpressed his appreciation to the instructors, stating,
“Despite challenging circumstances, you continue to fulfill your mission in your respective countries. Through this 10-day refresher training, I hope you will review standardized techniques and teaching methods, share your field experiences, and discuss ways to further advance Taekwondo together.”

Kukkiwon-dispatched instructors play a vital role in expanding the global Taekwondo community by sharing the spirit, philosophy, knowledge, techniques, and experience of Taekwondoin their host countries. Their efforts contribute to increased cultural exchange through Taekwondo and support its continued status as an official Olympic sport.


Since 2009, Kukkiwon, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, has implemented the Overseas Taekwondo Instructor Dispatch Programto promote Taekwondo in developing and strategically important countries. Currently, Kukkiwon instructors are dispatched to 53 countries, including 19 in Asia, 2 in Oceania, 7 in Africa, 12 in the Americas, and 13 in Europe.

Meanwhile, due to ongoing regional instability, instructors stationed in Jordanand Lebanonwere unable to attend this year’s refresher training.
